I absolutely love my medium, and I am astounded almost daily by what can be achieved with in 3D apps. but rarely do I find 3D imagery that can have the impact some more traditional mediums can.
I recently came across the work of Vladimir Volegov who quite simply takes my breath away. The rendering of light is absolutely masterful, the mood, almost overpoweringly sentimental. There is a cadence in his capture of gesture that emits a subtle yet ornate sincerity.
If you have a spare half an hour, I highly recommend you browse his wonderful gallery of works. He is quite prolific, and has been generous enough to post his work online for us to see and order prints.
