New philosophical lecture - Machiavellianism and the dark tetrad of human psychology
I recently gave another talk at the School of Practical Philosophy's annual Symposium in Sydney. It's my fourth one in a row now. This has been a labour of love for me for the past 12 months, and an awful lot of research, thought, and planning went into it. I learned a lot from studying the topic, and it's been incredibly useful to have explored the subject from the perspective of practical philosophy. Hopefully some of that passion and utility transfers to you as the viewer,

3d artist - Harsh Agrawal
I recently came across the work of Harsh Agrawal. He's actually a visual effects artist, at the time of writing he works at ILM in Singapore, but it's his paintings that really impress me. I first came across him on Pixar's Renderman website, where he hosted a technical demonstration for shader development and lighting in Renderman for Maya. It's always great to see lighting artists with classical fine arts training, and Agrawal is a perfect example of precocious talent acros

A change of direction
I recently accepted a position as a senior lecturer / cg supervisor at the Animal Logic Academy in Sydney. It's a masters program run by UTS, in partnership with (what is now) Netflix Animation Studios. This marks a turning point in my career that I've been angling at for 5 years now - a move to education. I started teaching night classes in philosophy as a passion project during the pandemic in 2020, and I really enjoyed it, and still do. So the idea came to mind at that tim

19th century photography
https://121clicks.com/inspirations/rare-19th-century-photos-history/ I recently came across this article and wanted to share it. It was intriguing to me because, in principle, these are some of the most primitive photographs ever produced, and yet they still have a way of being so evocative, and captivating. As a young guy, I used to obsess over fidelity. Everything had to be the highest resolution, and I wanted everything to be sampled to the highest standard the gear allowe

Album release - Light, Sound, and Shadow
I went to Indonesia for the first time in the November of 2025, with someone I was close to at the time. It no doubt sounds a little trite, but it was an intense emotional and spiritual experience for me. When I came back a lot of music came out of me, it was painful, but cathartic. It would make sense to say I decided to write an album about my experiences, but in truth, the album simply fell out of me - I didn't really have any say in the matter. The result was Light, S

New single release - Isolation
Isolation - 2025 I wrote this piece at the beginning of the pandemic in March or April 2020. It was initially released as a music video . Obviously it was always going to be very dark. While it is no doubt a little self-indulgent, it is cathartic to release emotion in this way. At the time I was really into the minimalist style of Philip Glass, and just how much emotion can be squeezed out of a pairing of two simple notes, overlayed by a haunting melody. Hopefully that

New single release - The Ukrainian
People are funny. They're all kind of the same in so many ways, and yet not even twins are truly identical. Some people have a way of holding a mirror up to you, and showing you a reflection of yourself that you could not possibly see in isolation. One thing is for certain, however, there was never anyone quite like the Ukrainian - and this is what she sounded like. Я буду сумувати за тобою, Руслано Spotify Apple Music YouTube

New single release - Allégresse
Allégresse - 2025 I haven't released a new piece of classical music since isolation in 2020, which I composed and recorded at the start of the pandemic (which had to be done in my living room, for obvious reasons). It's not to say I haven't been writing and playing, but the attention has been elsewhere. I wrote this piece and devoted it to someone I was in love with at the time - which was about 3 years ago. I was always a hopeless romantic... The relationship didn't last, bu
