I have been continuing to practise my traditional art skills in recent months. I recently completed this image as a 26th birthday gift for someone close to me. It also works as something of a self-portrait of me in my life at this point, and a reminder of what's most important to me.
The original is pencil on paper, rougly A4 in size, and took maybe 80-100 hours to complete, which I mainly did on the side of a full time job (read late nights...) over the course of the past month.
I'm getting a feel for the medium, and I'm finding that the principles of gesture, form, proprotion, light, and shadow all translate well from my greater experience in digital sculpture and lighting. That said, there is certainly still a lot to learn, so I plan to create more work of this nature in the near future. For now, I hope you enjoy this piece.
